New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update on injured slugger Joey Gallo, who's been out of the lineup for the past few days. Via Pete Caldera, Boone indicated Gallo would once again be out of the lineup on Tuesday night against the Blue Jays but did reveal that the left-hander could be available as a pinch-hitter off the bench.

Gallo apparently feels healthy enough to play and was angling for himself to get back into the starting lineup for Tuesday night's showdown. The Yankees preferred to give him another day of rest before bringing him back, and thus Boone is keeping him on the bench for one more night, barring the need for a pinch-hitter in the late innings.

Gallo has been dealing with a groin injury for the past few days but the fact that he feels he's able to return already is an incredibly encouraging sign. While he won't feature in the starting lineup on Tuesday, there's a good chance he'll be back in the fold for the third game of the series on Wednesday.

The Yankees finish their series in Toronto on Wednesday before returning to the Bronx to host the Texas Rangers on Friday, Gallo's former team.

The slugger has struggled in 2022, slashing just .180/.275/.295 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Across 61 at-bats this year, Gallo has just 11 hits and he's racked up 29 strikeouts. He's struggled to find his footing at the plate ever since the Yankees acquired him at the trade deadline last year. In a total of 79 games in pinstripes, Gallo has a slash line of .165/.298/.378 with 15 homers and 25 RBI.
