Kyrie Irving is still not allowed to play in homes games at the Barclays Center due to his refusal to get the covid-19 vaccine. However, it seemed unlikely that baseball players would face this same treatment given that they play their games outdoors. But it was recently announced that unvaccinated New York Yankees and Mets players would not be able to play home games as things stand right now. It should be noted that the city hall spokesperson who made the announcement also stated that things could change by the time Opening Day rolls around.

Nonetheless, Yankees superstar Aaron Judge was asked about his vaccination status at Yankees media day on Tuesday. Judge responded by proclaiming that he was “focused on getting through the first games of spring training” and that they will “cross that bridge whenever the time comes.” He completed his statement by mentioning that things are subject to change moving forward.

Judge did not give a straight up answer to the question so his vaccination status is currently unknown to the general public. People can assume all they want but in the end we will not know until the rule is lifted or Judge is inactive in the Yankees home opener. If Judge is forced to miss home games it would be an obvious blow for the Yankees. But once again, it is possible that he vaccinated and is simply choosing not to divulge that information.

New York is coming off of a season that saw them lose in the American League Wild Card Game against the rival Boston Red Sox. They have not won the World Series since 2009 and the fanbase is growing inpatient, so it will be interesting to see if this vaccination rule ends up playing a role in the team's success this season.
