The 2022 season is a hugely important one for the New York Yankees. Their championship window is open for now but other teams, especially in their own division, are making runs for the ultimate prize as well. The duo of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will keep them competitive as they look to break through to the World Series.

Stanton is slated for an even bigger role than last year. After Yankees manager Aaron Boone previously said he would use Stanton, who primarily occupied the designated hitter spot in the lineup last season, in the field more, Stanton said that he expects to play in the outfield several times a week.

Stanton played designated hitter in 108 of the 134 games he started last season. He spent 10 games in left field and 16 in right field. The 32-year-old will likely be splitting time in the corner outfield spots with Judge and/or Joey Gallo while Aaron Hicks plays center. He flashed his abilities in Spring Training by getting a runner out at third base from right field.

While the field is served as a place for Stanton that gives the Yankees roster flexibility, the plate is where he will primarily help them win. He was second on the team in home runs (35), batting average (.273), on-base percentage (.354) and slugging percentage (.516) last season. Judge led the team in each one. Stanton may not have made an All-Star team in the pinstripes yet but he is among their most important players in the quest for 28.
