The San Francisco Giants are hanging around in the National League West despite a plethora of injuries so far in 2022. But the Giants received a number of major injury updates on key players such as first baseman Brandon Belt and starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani on Friday ahead of their matchup with the Marlins.
Brandon Belt is dealing with right knee inflammation. The slugger has been out since mid-May due to the ailment but will begin his running progression on Friday. Belt is one of the core players on the Giants and had clubbed 4 home runs and drove in 11 runs prior to the injury. San Francisco is hopeful he can return sooner than later.
Anthony DeSclafani was a crucial piece to the puzzle during the Giants postseason run a season ago. But the right-hander has been limited to only 3 starts in 2022 due to right ankle inflammation. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen for one of the Giants minor league affiliates on Friday and is progressing towards rehab games.
DeSclafani surrendered two runs or less in two of his three starts to open the season. There is no question that his return will be crucial for the Giants this season.

The Giants are getting healthy. This is a team that has the potential to contend with both the Dodgers and Padres in the NL West when at full strength. A late season run could be in order once again for San Francisco this year.
