Jon Jones is undoubtedly one of the most talented stars the UFC has ever had. He's dominated the Light heavyweight division for years, however, Jones has been unable to control himself outside of the octagon. Jones was in the midst of returning to the cage to make his debut in the Heavyweight division. Instead, an incident in September halted that altogether.

Now, it appears as though Jon Jones has dodged jail time. According to ESPN, “Jones pleaded nolo contendere to a lesser charge, misdemeanor destroying the property of another, in Las Vegas Justice Court on Tuesday, stemming from a Sept. 24 incident at a Las Vegas Strip resort.”

Essentially, the former UFC champion accepted a conviction but refused to admit being guilty. Rather than spending jail time, Jon Jones, “must stay out of trouble, pay $750 restitution to the victim and attend anger management counseling,” per ESPN.

Staying out of trouble has never been Jones' strong suit. Regardless, it's something he must follow through with if he hopes to stay out of jail. It's incredibly sad to see Jon Jones in this situation, only because he's tainted his greatness in the UFC. Instead, we'll always be asking “what could have been,” when discussing Jones.

Even so, the former champ clearly needs help and hopefully, this is the final wake-up call that turns things around for him. We'll see what happens, but Jon Jones would be smart to follow through with the anger management counseling. Maybe he'll finally come to peace with his demons, maybe not. Only time will tell.
