Capcom has recently aired their official March 2022 digital event for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, showcasing a handful of new monsters, locales, skillbind moves, and more. With the event hosted by Ryozo Tsujimoto, the head producer for the Monster Hunter series, he wasted absolutely no time getting into the juicy details regarding the game and its massive expansion.

For starters: the expansion focuses on a new storyline that takes place after the events of the base game, where players will be able to visit a new town, new locales, learn new gameplay mechanics and obtain a new hunter rank called “Master Rank”, which was previously available in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and also known as “G-Rank” in much older Monster Hunter titles.

The new land that players be able to visit is known as “The Citadel”, which is home to various different locales including forests and icy mountain ranges, as well as an abandoned fortress that serves as a home for dangerous monsters. One of those new and dangerous monsters includes the mighty fanged beast known as Garangolm, a massive ape-like monster that has stone and scales all over its body. This beast can also make use of deadly fire and water element attacks by covering its claws in magma and moss whenever it becomes enraged.

The second monster revealed was a fanged wyvern known as Lunagaron, which can cover its body in ice to use as armor against the hunter's attacks. Once enraged, the monster will switch to a bipedal position, standing on two legs in order to attack hunters in new and less predictable ways.

Along with these two new monsters, a new subspecies from a previous monster in Monster Hunter Rise has also been revealed, such as the Blood Orange Bishate, along with a previously known monster introduced from Monster Hunter Generations, known as Astalos, a flying wyvern that uses its lightning bolts and amazing speed to shock and disable hunters before destroying them.

Before hunters can venture out to visit these new locales and hunt new monsters, players will first have to complete the main story of Monster Hunter Rise and then visit Elgado, a foreign land far away from Kamura Village. There, players will be able to stock up on supplies, buy and craft new equipment, visit a brand new Dango shop, along with all the other functions players can expect from the previous town.

While many other details regarding the game's story and new NPCs have been revealed, the digital event, unfortunately, did not go into any details regarding the new silkbind moves or buddy skills that were teased near the beginning and end of the event.

One new skilbind move that seems to be a new universal skill that all hunters can use is the ability to tether wirebugs onto monsters, allowing players to force monsters into more advantageous positions, such as pulling them towards cliffs or traps. Other new buddy skills shown off include palamutes using a back-mounted light bowgun, and palicos playing a new kind of horn to support and buff hunters in combat.

Some of the new weapon-exclusive Silkbind moves showcased in the trailer included a falling thrust for Lances and what seems to be some kind of aura that light gunners deploy, perhaps giving the players' a special damage boost when firing through the aura. One last new silkbind move shown was for dual blades, as a hunter is shown falling from the sky and performing a multi-hit drill attack against Zinogre, the lighting wolf.

The last bits of information regarding the digital event were focused on details regarding the game's release date, its deluxe editions, and various pre-order bonuses such as the ones listed below.  Players new to the Monster Hunter Rise were also encouraged to prepare for the Sunbreak expansion by making use of the game's Defender and Black Belt sets, which can help new and old players advance through the base game up until high rank.

Overall, the March 2022 digital event showcased plenty of new and exciting content for the game, and with its release date set for this Summer, there's still plenty more than Capcom can reveal before then. Let's just hope that this time, they'll give the Insect Glaive a bit more love, because many would agree that it got shafted the most when it came to its meager skillbind moves which could only be described as “Extra jump” and “Recall bug with invincibility frames”.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is scheduled for a global release on June 30th, 2022 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
