One of the hottest hitters in baseball is going on the IL. Washington Nationals slugger Kyle Schwarber exited Friday night's game with an apparent hamstring injury and it looks to be a lot more serious than initially though. According to Nationals manager Dave Martinez, he'll likely be on the shelf for a while:
This is definitely bad news for the Nationals and Schwarber. He's been absolutely raking lately, cranking a ridiculous 16 homers in his last 20 games. During that span, he hit .333 and won NL Player of the Month honors in June while helping DC surge their way up the NL East standings.
This isn't the only injury problem the Nationals are dealing with right now, either. Shortstop Trea Turner is currently day-to-day with a finger issue, while the likes of Stephen Strasburg, Eric Fedde, and Daniel Hudson are already sidelined as well.
With the team currently 40-40 which is good for second place in their division, the question will arise if the Nats will be buyers or sellers at the deadline because of these health issues.
On the season, Schwarber has clubbed 25 homers for the Nats, which is fourth in the big leagues. Hopefully, he won't be out too long because Washington desperately needs his impact bat.
