The New York Knicks appear destined to select near the top of the 2020 NBA Draft. LaMelo Ball appears destined to be selected near the top of the 2020 NBA Draft.
So, what if the Knicks bestow a uniform to Ball? That's what highly controversial and outspoken father, LaVar, believes should happen.
“The best fit in my eyes is the New York Knicks,” LaVar said on a recent appearance on FS1. “It’s time for something good to happen to them.”
The eldest Ball is familiar with having a son taken early in an NBA Draft, having seen his eldest son, Lonzo, selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017. That tenure was short lived after Lonzo was dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Anthony Davis blockbuster, but also served as a means of LaVar stepping out of some of the big city limelight.
LaMelo Ballhas proven to be a tremendous prospect, despite having foregone the collegiate route. Having starred for the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL in Australia, the 6-foot-7 Ball has scouts tantalized by his upside, but also made them hesitant due to his shot selection.
The larger question at hand as it pertains to the Knicks is: Would the franchise embrace all of the additional off-the-court hype that would come with drafting Ball?
The issue may be moot if Ball is selected before the Knicks are able to draft. But it sounds as if LaVar could have his way, he'd have his next NBA-bound son donning the orange and blue.
