Oklahoma standout Trae Young canceled his workout with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

The reason for this move is the likely belief that he won't be on the draft board by the time the Sixers select with the No. 10 pick.

Now more than in any recent drafts, picks beyond the first overall have proved massively unpredictable, with mock drafts fluctuating every other day due to new private workouts and interviews, making this gambit a rather risky one for Young.

The Sooners' sensation is coming off what he believes was one of his best workouts with the Chicago Bulls, hoping to prove not only that his shooting and playmaking (led the nation in scoring and assists) will translate to the NBA, but also rid the stigma of being a defensive liability.

Young has plenty of fans within NBA front offices, but also plenty of detractors in scouts who think his pace of game would be a tough fit in a more physical, detail-oriented pro game, where he will be forced to make split-hair decisions and take smarter shots, likely no longer the best player in his team.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds (gained 13 pounds after declaring for NBA Draft), Young will still have the likes of the Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New York Knicks taking a strong look at his talents before the Sixers get a chance to take their shot.
