When Daryl Morey first left his position as general manager of the Houston Rockets, he hinted at taking some time away from basketball.

Of course, Morey eventually entered a new chapter of his basketball career by taking over as president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he had the opportunity to try his hand at a new sport.

Morey told Rich Eisen an NFL team reached out to him about becoming the team's general manager:

“I'll be honest. It would be very presumptive of me to think I could help an NFL team,” Daryl Morey told Eisen, via Brandon Scott of SportsRadio 610. “But they did reach out. I just figure out my skills are JUST much higher and better in the NBA just with the experience and everything. But it was an intriguing idea. …

“To be fair to them, they didn't offer it. They just reached out to talk. They could've met with me, said ‘that guy's an idiot' and moved on.”

The timing of all this is a bit interesting.

Daryl Morey built consistent winners in Houston with the Rockets. Meanwhile, the Houston Texans' front office is still in peril after firing former head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien earlier this year.

Is it possible the Texans were the team that reached out to Morey regarding the GM position? It only makes sense, given proximity. Then again, the point is somewhat moot because — as Morey stated — an offer was never on the table.

Daryl Morey will have his hands full trying to bring the Sixers a title. But it wold have been fascinating to see if he could have built a winner in the NFL.
