Brian Windhorst shuts down idea of Kevin Durant & LeBron James teaming up with Lakers
As it does every year around this time, the speculation surrounding the NBA’s biggest stars and their intentions with free agency right around the corner has hit fever pitch. LeBron James’ pending decision in free agency is the hot topic of discussion with no clear indication where he might end up with the Los Angeles Lakers seemingly a strong candidate for his services.
Kevin Durant, however, appears perfectly content with the Golden State Warriors even though he has the ability to test free agency this summer. The two superstars teaming up in Los Angeles might be a fantasy for Magic Johnson, but that is almost certainly where it ends, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
The best solution — calling up free-agent-to-be Durant at the end of the series and asking him to join forces with him in someplace like Los Angeles — seems to be off the table with Durant having finally achieved the higher ground.
Although LeBron will definitely be weighing his options in NBA free agency this summer with the Lakers expected to come calling, Durant isn’t going anywhere as will more than likely be a two-time NBA champion looking to build a dynasty in the Bay Area.
As for the Lakers, Magic and general manager Rob Pelinka will make their pitch to James and other big-name free agents like Paul George as they try to get back into title contention in the NBA. After years of disappointment and rebuilding, the purple and gold are looking to make a major splash in one way or another this summer.
At this point, Los Angeles is in the mix to sign James along with other notable teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, and his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.
