The NBA has just announced that Bay Area native and jazz legend Carlos Santana will be performing the National Anthem before tip off of Game 2 Sunday night.

Although Santana's status as an icon in the music industry is more than enough reason to justify his presence in one of the biggest sporting events in the world, there is actually also a bit of superstition involved here.

The 70-year-old has been tapped to perform in the NBA Finals in the past three years and the fact that it has always been in Game 2 is no longer a coincidence. It is worth noting that Santana has given the Golden State Warriors a bit of an edge as the home town team has won two out of the three Game 2 meetings (all against the Cleveland Cavaliers) whenever he is tasked to perform the Anthem.

In 2015, the Cavs stole Game 2 in Oakland after defeating the Warriors 95-93. The past two Santana performances have proven to be a lucky charm for Golden State, as they successfully secured home court victories against the Cavs in both 2016 and 2017.

Santana and the Warriors are now looking to make it three straight Game 2 victories come Sunday night.

Adding further credibility to this rather peculiar claim is Nayah Damasen. The 13-year-old San Jose native performed the Anthem prior to Game 1 last Thursday, as she did three years ago. Damasen also sang “The Star Spangled Banner” in Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals which similarly resulted in a victory for the Warriors.

Golden State must not want to break what's not broken.
