Former NBA big man Charles Oakley says it's embarrassing Dwight Howard got signed before Carmelo Anthony.

Howard signed a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony, meanwhile, is still on the open market and hasn't played in an NBA game since November of 2018.

Carmelo Anthony played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season before the franchise exiled and traded him to the Chicago Bulls in January. The 10-time All-Star averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds with the Rockets while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Anthony told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith a few weeks ago he’s willing to play any role on a team. Brooklyn Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are reportedly pushing the franchise to sign Melo.

Last season with the Washington Wizards, Dwight Howard played in nine games. He underwent a lumbar microdiscotemy in November, the second back surgery of his career.

Howard put up 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds with Washington. The Lakers signed Howard after losing DeMarcus Cousins to an ACL tear.

Charles Oakley believes Carmelo Anthony is a better player than Dwight Howard at the moment and deserves a roster spot over the former superstar big man. Anthony’s future in the NBA is very uncertain, as we are one day away from the start of September and Melo is still a free agent.
