Detroit Pistons legend and Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas stands by his statement LeBron James is the greatest player in NBA history.

Thomas took to Twitter to defend previous statements regarding James as the “GOAT,” citing a segment by FOX Sports commentator Nick Wright:

Thomas also attempted to clarify there was no malice or hate in his rationale for selecting James over the likes of Michael Jordan or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Rather, he cited his long history in the game as giving him credence to speak on the matter.

Thomas has changed stances on the GOAT debate numerous times.

The former “Bad Boy” has labeled both Jordan and Kareem as the best player in NBA history numerous times in his post-playing days. Now, Thomas has become that much more enamored by James' accolades and abilities on the hardwood.

Granted, Isiah is certainly allowed to change his opinions on the matter. After all, James' fourth NBA title has certainly reinvigorated the debate about who holds the GOAT mantle.

But Thomas also garners more flak than others for his takes because of his long and somewhat contemptuous history especially as it pertains to Jordan.

The two were adversaries in the '80s and '90s. Thomas was involved in an alleged “freeze-out” of Jordan at the 1985 All-Star game. The two also engaged in multiple playoff battles, with Thomas' Bad Boys Pistons often getting the better of Jordan and the upstart Chicago Bulls. That Pistons fanned the flames of that rivalry by walking off the floor without shaking hands at the end of the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals.

As such, some fans have wondered whether Isiah Thomas can truly be an objective observer in this debate. But Isiah is indeed one of the greatest point guards in the history of the game, and he made sure to remind everyone as such on Friday.
