If you have ever played franchise mode on NBA 2K, you surely did an expansion and moved/added a team to Las Vegas. I know I’ve done that basically each year the new game comes out. However, Vegas adopting an NBA franchise may become a reality in the near future.

An LA-based company is reportedly planning to build a sports and entertainment project south of the strip.

“An investment company from Los Angeles has announced plans to build a $3 billion sports and entertainment project — centered around a $1 billion basketball arena — just south of the Strip, near Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road.”

Las Vegas is already home to professional sports franchises such as the Golden Knights and Raiders. The Raiders were the first of the big three sports, NFL, NBA, and MLB, to set up shop in Sin City. However, there have been rumors around the Oakland A’s following suit and also moving to Vegas.

It is conceivable that the city ends up with a team representing each of the aforementioned sports within the next decade.

As of now, there are no official NBA discussions revolving around expanding to Vegas. But if this project is completed and there is an arena available for use on the strip, the league will likely inquire about adding a Las Vegas-based team. The NBA has always demonstrated a passion for expanding the game and bringing in new fans, so this would seem right up their alley. Plus, the league already plays Summer League games in Vegas which tend to draw large crowds.

There is a very strong chance that Las Vegas ends up with an NBA team in the not so distant future.
