Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James gave his two cents on the exhilarating yet controversial NBA Dunk Contest showdown between Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon and Miami Heat swingman Derrick Jones Jr.

LeBron called Gordon and Jones Jr. professional dunkers and said that each of them should have received trophies after their amazing performances on Saturday.

Maybe this is the reason why LeBron James never joined the Dunk Contest.

The result of the 2020 NBA Dunk Contest was controversial to say the least. Derrick Jones Jr. took home the trophy, but fans and players alike felt that Aaron Gordon should have won for the classic show he put on.

Jones Jr. won the contest on the second tie-breaker between the two. The 6-foot-7 highflyer scored a 48 after making a near free-throw line windmill dunk.

Gordon, on the other hand, dunked over the 7-foot-5 behemoth Tacko Fall as his answer. The entire building assumed that he would get the coronation he deserves after pulling off that slam.

Unfortunately for him, three judges gave him a 9, giving him a total of 47. After which, the crowd, Reggie Miller, Kenny Smith and everybody in the building was shocked. Heck, even DJJ couldn't believe it at first.

Make no mistake: Jones Jr. also put on a winning performance. However, Gordon definitely should have taken home some hardware at the very least.

The man had four 50s through the regular rounds — including arguably the dunk of the night, a clean 360 off a backboard alley-oop pass from Markelle Fultz. He also scored another 50 in his first dunk of the tie-breaker and arguably should have ended the night with six perfect scores on his finale.

Unfortunately, the Chicago crowd witnessed a repeat of Gordon getting robbed of his rightful place as NBA Slam Dunk king.

Gordon announced shortly after the competition that he is done with the dunk contest. After Saturday's highway robbery as Reggie Miller and Kenny Smith put it, Gordon should be. The dunk contest doesn't deserve him.
