The popularity of ESPN's The Last Dance docuseries has taken the GOAT debate to a whole new level. These days, folks are more than happy to engage with each other with regards to who the GOAT really ought to be. It's Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan for most, while some argue that it's Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt, who himself had the opportunity to coach LeBron for a season and a half, has provided us with his two cents worth on this matter. According to the 60-year-old shot-caller, there's no question in his mind that Jordan's achievements outweigh that of James.

“Michael Jordan is bigger than LeBron James,” Blatt pointed out on Sunday commenting on the latest episodes made available, via Eurohoops. “He won the most championships with one single team and did not focus on the “I” but on the “us”. But surely, in terms of ability and influence, they are both included in the top five best players in history.”

Any argument will more often than not have a valid reason to support its claim, and Blatt's comments here is nothing out of the ordinary. However, what makes this intriguing is the fact that he was actually a first-hand witness of LeBron's greatness. The fact that he mentioned that bit about Jordan being team-centric might also be interpreted as some as a veiled shot aimed at LeBron.

At the end of the day, though, there's no point looking too much into Blatt's statement here. After all, it is simply a man's personal opinion, and we cannot fault him for picking one over the other.
