Ex-NBA player Shane Battier has been inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski — Battier's head coach in college — even shared a tribute for Shane before he was honored in the event. More than Battier's individual and team accomplishments, coach K called him a true leader both on and off the court.

The Miami Heat — which Battier helped win two titles — congratulated him for his induction into the college basketball hall of fame. They even laid out all his milestones as a collegiate standout.

Moreover, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey sent out his congratulations to Battier. To recall, the swingman spent five seasons with the Rockets.

Other inductees include Rick Majerus, Lute Olson, Calbert Cheane, Larry Johnson, Terry Dischinger, Ernie DiGregorio and Todd Lichti.

Battier shares some history with Majerus as the head coach cut him from the Goodwill USA Team in 1998. It was a painful experience for Battier, but he picked up lessons from that episode in his life.

“It was the first time I’ve ever been cut from a team,” Battier said. “I was pretty heated and after that I worked my tail off. I had one goal and that was I wanted my coach to be sweating every second when I was on the bench.

“That propelled me to come back stronger and hungrier,” he said. “I think that was the motivation I needed.”

After being cut, Battier won three NABC Defensive Player of the Year honors, National Player of the Year award, Final Four Outstanding Player and a National Title in his final three years of college. He went on to have a successful career in the NBA and now, he's back full circle with his name forged in the college basketball history books.
