Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread

The Atlanta Hawks barely have a winning record. After a very successful 2020 campaign that gave Atlanta fans a lot of hope for this season, the Hawks have not been able to play up to expectations. They are coming off a 9 point loss to the New York Knicks. Atlanta was unable to get things going offensively as a team and it showed. In the game prior, however, they demolished the Grizzlies and won by 32. So the big question is which Atlanta Hawks team is going to show up on Wednesday.

Leading the way for Atlanta is Trae Young. Trae Young is one of the best offensive talents in the NBA. He can make shots from anywhere on the court and has shown no signs of slowing down. In their loss to the Knicks, Ice Trae dropped 33 points and dished out 7 assists. The offense flows through Young and if he is on then the Hawks should have no problem getting a win on the road. Indiana will find it tough to keep up with Trae Young, but if other Hawks players can step up the Pacers don't stand a chance.

Another crucial part of this Hawks team has been Clint Capela. The big man is a dominant force and it has showed. In their loss to New York, Capela put up 16 points and grabbed an absurd 21 rebounds. He is a walking double double who plays a huge role for the Hawks. Capela is clutch when it comes to rebounding and if he can just keep on doing what he has been doing all season Atlanta could easily win this game. The Pacers will have trouble stopping the Hawks Center and the game could come down to a few vitally important rebounds.

Why The Pacers Could Cover The Spread

The Indiana Pacers may have a poor record but they are actually the favorite in this match up. Indiana has proven that they can be a competitive team and play solid basketball against tough opponents. The Pacers are coming off a 2 point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. That game really came down to the wire and Indiana was just unable to finish the job. They will be looking to bounce back against another tough opponent. After a one game road stint, the Pacers are kicking off the first of six games that they are going to play at home. Expect the Pacers to come out firing.

Leading the way for Indiana is Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis has really been having a great season. His stat line in their loss to Minnesota was extremely impressive. Against the Wolves he notched a triple double with 16 points, 10 assists, and a mind blowing 25 rebounds. If their is any member of this Pacers team that can take over game it's Sabonis. He is one of the most talented and versatile big men in the league. Sabonis can create offense and get the Pacer out of slumps. Expect another big night from the big man.

Another bright spot for this Pacers team has been Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon continues to impress and serve as an important part of the Pacers. He is coming off a 25 point, 6 rebound, 5 assist, and 3 steal outing against the Wolvers. This stat line is not unusual for the Pacers guard. On the season he is averaging over 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists a game. If Brogdon can put up some big numbers on Wednesday then the Pacers should be able to win this one.

Final Hawks-Pacers Prediction & Pick

This is going to be a really close game. These two teams are very evenly matched and this should easily come down to the wire. However, the edge has to be given to the Atlanta Hawks. The Pacers have managed to win some games against very tough opponents, but so have the Hawks. At the end of the day the Hawks are a slightly better team and the odds have them set as underdogs. If the line was flipped then maybe the pick would be too, but with Atlanta as the underdog they are the correct pick. Pick the Hawks to cover and get ready for an intense game.
