New York Knicks: +8 (-110)

Utah Jazz: -8 (-110)

Over: 218.5 (-110)

Under: 218.5 (-110)

Why The Knicks Could Cover The Spread

The Knicks have had an underwhelming season so far after being such a pleasant surprise in 2020-21. They have shown flashes of competitiveness but have failed to string together wins. Through their first 53 games, they only have 24 wins and 29 losses. They are coming off a seven-point overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. While they got out to a big lead, they were unable to finish the job and lost in the extra period. The Knicks face another tough opponent in Utah on Monday and will need to step things up if they hope to come out ahead.

While New York has struggled this season, with Julius Randle in particular a major disappointment, he did have one of his best games in Saturday's loss to Los Angeles. With Rudy Gobert still out due to a calf injury, Randle will try to keep the momentum going and take advantage of the Jazz star's absence. There was some drama involving Randle and a Knicks coach against the Lakers, but they're trying to move past it.

The Knicks are dealing with some injuries themselves, but their injury report isn't all that extensive. Kemba Walker is out with left knee soreness, but he's no big loss at this point given his minuscule production. Derrick Rose remains out and is looking to return after the All-Star break, which is a notable absence, but he has been out for a while. New York will need a team effort to keep things close on the road against Utah and at least cover the spread.

Why The Jazz Could Cover The Spread

The Jazz have a solid 32-21 record this season and are hoping to move past a recent slump. Utah started the season 28-10 and then lost 11 of 13 games to fall to 30-21. However, the Jazz have won two games in a row and are fresh off an impressive 23-point victory over the Brooklyn Nets. While the Nets were without both Kevin Durant and James Harden, a 23-point victory is still impressive. Utah will look to carry that same energy and momentum into this home matchup against the Knicks. New York has looked vulnerable recently, so the Jazz should be able to take advantage.

Donovan Mitchell has finally returned from a concussion. In his first game back after missing over two weeks, he went off for 27 points in only 22 minutes against Brooklyn. Mitchell's return could be symbolic of the Jazz flipping the script and turning things up a notch in anticipation of the playoffs. Now that Mitchell has returned, a big run could be in the works, especially once Rudy Gobert returns from his own injury.

In addition to Gobert's injury, both Jordan Clarkson and Rudy Gay are questionable for the game, the former having participated in morning shootaround and the latter missing it. Regardless of injuries, the Jazz are deep enough and have Mitchell leading the way, so they should be able to come out ahead on their home floor.

Final Knicks-Jazz Prediction & Pick

This is a tough one. The Jazz should probably win this game, but the spread is wide. The Knicks have been in a couple close matchups recently, and Monday could end up coming down to the wire. Without Gobert, the Jazz aren't as dominant a force. Even with Mitchell, winning by more than eight is tough to bet on. The Jazz dominated the Nets, but you should pick the Knicks to cover in this one.
