Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread
The Brooklyn Nets are one of the best teams in the NBA. While injuries and COVID have certainly impacted this team, they have managed to remain competitive. Through the first half of the year, the Nets have managed to win 27 games and lose only 16 matches. Brooklyn is coming off a seven-point loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. That was Brooklyn's first game of many without Kevin Durant and they will look to build on that performance on Wednesday. The Nets have the talent and skill to remain competitive, they will just need to kick things up a notch.
No single statistic can be pointed to as the reason for Brooklyn's loss to the Cavs. Rather, an all-around lackluster performance from the Nets, and solid performance from Cleveland, resulted in a Nets loss. The Cavaliers edged out Brooklyn across nearly all metrics. Most notably, the Cavs did a much better job at capitalizing on their free throw opportunities. Brooklyn only made 13 of their 18 shots from the stripe, while the Cavs made 19 of 21 attempts. This six-point discrepancy almost fully accounts for the seven-point difference at the end of the game.
The biggest challenge for this Nets team is overcoming injuries and COVID. Brooklyn currently has five players listed on their injury report. Of those five players only one, DeAndre' Bembry, is questionable for Wednesday's game. The most notable absence will be Kevin Durant. As mentioned above, KD missed his first of many games on Monday. The Nets' star will be out for 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL. This is a huge blow to the Nets. With that said, Brooklyn has a talented enough roster to continue to compete and win games.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread
The Washington Wizards have had a rollercoaster of a season. They started off extremely strong but have since experienced many ups and downs. Like every team, the Wizards have had to overcome injuries and COVID absences. Through the first half of the season, the Wizards have managed to squeak out a winning record with 23 wins and 21 losses. Washington has managed to win four of their last five games, and are coming off an impressive 19-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers. That was an extremely impressive win for Washington, and the Wizards will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday's match.
Washington was able to take down the Sixers not because of a single strength, but rather an all-around impressive team effort. The Wizards had seven players that scored double-digit points in that game. This type of well-rounded team performance is tough to compete with. Especially when compared to the Sixers who only had two players score in the double digits. Additionally, the Wizards edged out Philly across the board in scoring, rebounds, and assists. If Washington is able to replicate this performance on Wednesday then they should have no problem extending their win streak to two.
Perhaps the biggest advantage that the Wizards have over the Nets is their health. While Brooklyn will be without some key roster members on Wednesday, Washington will have their entire roster available. The Wizards had been impacted by injuries, but currently have zero players listed on their injury report. This means that the full strength Wizards will take on the crippled Nets. Washington should feel good about this matchup and confident that they can notch another win on Wednesday.
Final Nets-Wizards Prediction & Pick
This is a very interesting pick. The Brooklyn Nets have some of the most talented players in the league. Both James Harden and Kyrie Irving will play on Wednesday, and both of those guys have the ability to take over games. However, after those two guys, the quality of players on the Nets significantly drops off. Contrasted with Washington, who has a very well-rounded roster. Additionally, the fact that the Wizards are completely healthy and the Nets will be without KD makes Washington a more favorable pick. Pick the Wizards to win and cover and hope that one of the Nets stars doesn't go off.
FINAL NETS-WIZARDS PICK: Washington Wizards +1 (-114)
FINAL NETS-WIZARDS SCORE PREDICTION: Wizards 120 – Nets 112
