The Brooklyn Nets host the Denver Nuggets for an interconference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Nuggets-Nets prediction and pick.
The Nuggets are finally putting everything together again. They have won three of their last five games but are starting to see their record improve. The Nuggets are 25-21 on the season which is good for sixth in the Western Conference. They are coming off of a 5-point victory over the Detroit Pistons and have a tough matchup against the Nets upcoming. As for Brooklyn, they are third in the East with a 29-18 record. The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Nets 106-96 last night after 33 points from LeBron James as well as James Harden. Harden and the Nets have a tough task at home Wednesday night.

Why The Nuggets Could Cover The Spread
Denver is more than capable of covering this spread on the road. They come in as favorites which is the right call. This game is in New York so that means Kyrie Irving won't play for the Nets. Brooklyn is already without Kevin Durant, so it will just be James Harden of the big three against the Nuggets. That gives Denver a much higher chance at covering this spread. It's not a wide margin, so the Nuggets need to just find a way to win the game to likely cover. Denver is 12-12 on the road this season and the Nets are only 12-12 at home. Irving not playing at home this season is clearly a major reason for that average play.
If the Nuggets contain Harden then there is really no one else they need to seriously focus on besides maybe Patty Mills. Nikola Jokic will be on his game like he is every single game, and that should be enough to lead them past the Nets here. Brooklyn doesn't have anyone who can defend the reigning MVP. The Nuggets are pretty bad against the spread this season going just 18-27. The good news is that the Nets are identical at 18-27-1 ATS.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread
This is going to be a rough stretch of games of the Nets without Durant and potentially Irving for some of them. Harden is a former MVP himself so there is no reason to count him out on any given night. But the Nets are struggling without the NBA's leading scorer in Durant. Brooklyn will need to find other options to help Harden out. Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Kessler Edwards need to really step up if the Nets want a chance to cover this spread at home.
The Nets are 5-5 in their last 10 games and it's been the defense that has been hurting them. They are allowing 115.6 points per game over their last 10 games and that is never going to be good. Denver is averaging 115 points in their last 10 games so that right there should tell you a lot about the possibilities of this result. If the Nets' defense doesn't play well, then Denver could dominate them.
