Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread

The Golden State Warriors have had a great season. In spite of injuries and adversity, the Warriors have managed to come out on top often as we near the end of the regular season. Through 73 games they have an impressive record of 48-25. They are fresh off an impressive 14-point victory over the Miami Heat. Golden State will look to build on that win Friday. The Hawks are a beatable team and while the Warriors may come into this game as an underdog, they are more than capable of walking away with a win. If Golden State can carry the same energy and momentum that they had in their last match up then they should have no problem stealing this win on the road.

The Warriors win over the Miami Heat was somewhat shocking. Golden State entered that game as huge underdogs. In a match up where the Warriors intentionally sat all their starters, most people assumed that they were just waiving the white flag, but that was not the case. The players on Golden State who were given an opportunity to step up did just that. Four different players scored 20+ points. That type of distribution doesn't even happen when the Warriors are at full health. Maybe there's something to be said for removing egos from a team. Whatever it was, the Warriors found a way to make it work.

Golden State is still dealing with injuries. Currently they have three players listed on their injury report, with only Andre Iguodala listed as questionable. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green missed the last game purely for rest purposes and they will return to action on Friday.

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread

The Atlanta Hawks have had an underwhelming year. Many people had decently high expectations for the Hawks, but this team has consistently struggled. Through 73 games they actually have a losing record of 36-37. Atlanta is coming off an embarrassing 21-point loss to the Pistons. Detroit is one of the worse teams in the league and to lose to them by over 20 points is just unacceptable for a team with playoff ambitions. The Hawks will look to bounce back in a tough match up against Golden State. The Warriors are starting to get momentum, so winning this game will be no easy feat. Expect the Hawks to try and kick things into high gear and start gaining momentum in advance of the playoffs.

The Hawks did not come close to playing up to their potential against the Pistons. They started the game off strong, outscoring Detroit in the first quarter, but quickly lost steam and failed to keep pace with the Pistons. The main reason for the Hawks struggles was poor shooting. Atlanta is such an offensive heavy team. When they don't take quality shots or aren't making their shots at their usual frequencies they fall behind quick. That's exactly what happened against the Pistons. The Hawks hit shots at the beginning but just fizzled out. If Atlanta wants to keep pace with the Warriors they will need to do better.

At least, for Atlanta's sake, they are almost completely healthy. The only injured player on the Hawks roster is John Collins, who is listed as out for Friday. This Hawks team has just about everyone available and if they play up to their potential they should be able to compete. Atlanta just needs to come out strong and keep that same energy up for four quarters.

Final Warriors-Hawks Prediction & Pick

Given all the available information it is kind of confusing as to why the Warriors are underdogs in this match up. They just managed to beat a tough Heat team without Thompson or Green and now that those two guys are coming back, one would think they'll only be better. Regardless, the Hawks have been struggling lately and betting on them to step up is a losing move. Pick the Warriors to win and cover.
