The Wizards are coming off a crushing 157-153 double-overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. Kyle Kuzma led Washington with 36 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Raul Neto added 24 points and 22 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, after serving as gracious hosts of All-Star Weekend, the Cavaliers lost a tough 106-103 outing to the Detroit Pistons. Lauri Markkanen was the high-man for Cleveland with 22 points as five other Cavaliers scored in double figures.

This should be an intriguing Eastern Conference matchup between two young teams that have gone in the opposite direction this season. The Wizards have the 2-1 edge on the season series so far. All games, however, came early in the regular season. Washington won the first game by three on November 3. Cleveland took the second game by 15 points. In their penultimate encounter this season, the Wizards won 110-93.

Here is how FanDuel has set the Wizards-Cavaliers NBA odds for this Saturday night NBA matchup.

Why the Wizards could cover the spread

The Washington Wizards could enter Saturday's game a little gassed after going through a physically and mentally draining loss to the Spurs on Friday.

Washington has yet to submit its injury report, but Kristaps Porzingis still has not made his debut for the Wizards. Porzingis was acquired by Washington in a shocking trade deadline deal that sent Davis Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie to the Dallas Mavericks. Of course, the Wizards are without star shooting guard Bradley Beal, who is done for the season after undergoing wrist surgery.

Washington started off the season really well but has since faltered to the 11th seed in the standings. They have split their last six games and are still trailing the Atlanta Hawks for the 10th seed in the East. Without Beal, it would be a challenge for the Wizards to get to the play-in tournament at least. Both Washington and Atlanta have a favorable remaining schedule. A win over the Cavs on Saturday and a Hawks loss to the Raptors would give the two teams identical records.

The Wizards are 27-32 on the season, 12-16 on the road, and 20-19 against Eastern Conference teams. They are 22-35 against the spread, 27-32 on the moneyline, and 30-29 on the over/under.

Why the Cavaliers could cover the spread

The Cavaliers just came off a game that they really should have won, so they should enter Saturday more motivated to erase Thursday's loss to the Pistons. Dating back to pre-All-Star, the Cavs have now lost three straight games.

Cleveland were without All-Star guard Darius Garland, who had a fine showing in front of his home fans during All-Star Weekend, against the Pistons. The Cavs have once again ruled him out due to back soreness versus Washington on Saturday. In addition, veteran guard Rajon Rondo is slated to miss the next two weeks due to a sprained toe. Finally, aside from Collin Sexton, who has been ruled out for the season since November, Caris LeVert is also out for two weeks due to a sprained right foot.

This last stretch of losses has dropped the Cavaliers to 5th in the Eastern Conference. As surprising as this season has been, Cleveland is still chasing that no. 4 seed in order to get home-court advantage in what should be their first postseason appearance since LeBron James left in 2018. They trail defending champion Milwaukee Bucks by a half a game, while the scorching hot Boston Celtics are right on their coattails by just one game.

The Cavaliers enter Saturday with a 35-24 record. Cleveland is one of the best teams at home at 18-9 and are 20-14 versus the East. Against the spread, they are also one of the better teams at 33-22. They are 35-24 on the moneyline, but are just 22-36 on the over/under.

Final WizardsCavaliers Prediction & Pick

Based on their records this season, the Cavaliers should have the edge. But they are playing undermanned right now and don't have any of their backcourt pieces in Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Rajon Rondo, and even newly acquired guard Caris LeVert. Nonetheless, Cleveland should still be my pick for this one. They should come in with extra determination to end their three-game slide. In addition, they are also facing a fatigued, Bradley Beal-less Wizards team that played 58 minutes on Friday.

Final WizardsCavaliers Prediction & Pick: Cavaliers: -8 (-110)
