The Slam Dunk Contest field was always discussed as one of the more disappointing in recent memory, especially after the privilege of Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine a few years back. However, New York Knicks rookie Obi Toppin was among the field of three that made insane dunks during halftime of the All-Star Game, including this one.

Toppin, the rookie first-round pick out of Dayton, wowed the crowd and the players watching with this impressive dunk over Julius Randle and his father.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons and Indiana Pacers guard Cassius Stanley rounded out the field for the contest, in what provided mixed reactions from fans and current and former NBA players.

Obi Toppin was heralded as one of the best players in the 2020 NBA draft class but hasn't found a consistent role with the Knicks thus far this season. Part of that is due to his injury at the start of the year, and another is due to the Knicks' performance and hopes of making the playoffs in their first year with head coach Tom Thibodeau.

The Knicks have exceeded expectations and Toppin, a four-year senior from Dayton was expected to contribute quite a bit with the Knicks in the middle of a rebuild. However, the Knicks are far from a rebuild and haven't been a tanking team, which is another reason for his lack of minutes this season.

The rookie ended up finishing second to Simons in the final round of the dunk contest and the fans seemed to enjoy the majority of the contest, although it's been a few years in a row of terrific contests with big-time names joining the field.

Either way, Toppin got to share a special moment during the Dunk Contest with his father and his teammate and fellow All-Star Julius Randle.
