As the NBA celebrates basketball excellence with the All-Star Game, they made sure to pay tribute to two important figures that they lost early this year. Magic Johnson led the entire NBA community as they paid tribute to Kobe Bryant and David Stern before the start of the game.

As shared by Dime, Johnson asked the Chicago crowd to keep themselves quiet for eight seconds as they commemorated the lives of Bryant and Stern. Behind him were all of the All-Stars who were united in their tribute to the two great losses of the sport.

David Stern passed away during the first day of the year to hemorrhagic stroke. He was credited for helping the NBA get out of its dark phase during the 70s into the media giant that it is today. He introduced policies that helped the league become marketable and palpable to American masses.

Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant was a consummate competitor who won five titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. He's widely regarded as the closest to Michael Jordan in terms of cultural significance, and his impact can be seen on many of the players who are donning All-Star jerseys on the floor today.
