The Atlanta Hawks dodged a major bullet on Tuesday, as X-ray results revealed that Trae Young’s injury was not as serious as earlier anticipated. However, that doesn't mean the young sharpshooter won't be missing time.

The 21-year-old guard was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain, and he could miss up to two weeks due to the injury.

Young sustained the injury in the second quarter of the Hawks’ 112-97 loss to the Miami Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena on Tuesday.

He drove hard through the defense of Goran Dragic and James Johnson when he landed awkwardly and rolled his ankle. He stayed down for a few minutes before being helped off the playing area.

Young, last year’s Rookie of the Year runner-up, had five points, two assists, and two rebounds at the time of the injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

After a 2-0 start to the season, the Hawks absorbed its second straight defeat and will be in dire need of a go-to scorer with their best player set to miss some time.

Young was awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Week citation after tallying splendid numbers of 38.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists through Atlanta’s first two games. Young has been unconscious from the field hitting 50.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 50 percent from rainbow country in three games.

He scored 25 points and dished out nine assists in their previous match against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Atlanta embraced a full rebuild under coach Lloyd Pierce this year, focusing their offense around Young after his impressive freshman season. The team still has promising pieces in John Collins and Kevin Huerter. They are also expecting big things out of their two lottery picks this year in De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish.
