The second-year guard sprained his ankle last week in their 112-97 loss to the Miami Heat. He accidentally stepped on the foot of Heat point-forward Justise Winslow while attacking the basket in the second quarter of the game.
Young played just 11 minutes and scored five points, two rebounds and two assists. Initial X-rays revealed that the 21-year-old did not sustain any structural damage and an MRI was determined not to be necessary.
Young practiced with the team's practoce on Monday, noting that he “feels great” and is looking to suit up soon.

“It feels great,” Young said, per Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This is probably the hardest I’ve worked as far as a small time period, and needing to listen, to do everything I could to be able to get back. If anybody knows me, (they know) I hate missing games. I hate not being able to play. So I was trying to do everything I could to be able to get back.”
Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce, meanwhile, is still carefully observing Young's status.
“We always wait to see how to see how it responds… we work, and we see how it responds, and if everything goes well, then we assume he's ready to go tomorrow,” Pierce said.
Prior to the injury, Young has been a dominant force. He was named Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2019-20 season, boasting averages of 26.8 points, 7.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds over his first four games.
