Philadelphia 76ers superstar Ben Simmons recently gave his take on the Rookie of the Year race between Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic.

Simmons, who won the coveted award last season following a close race with Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, picked Doncic to win Rookie of the Year this season. Young reacted to Simmons' pick after their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

In a video posted by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic on Twitter, Young said that he is aware that Simmons said that he would vote for Doncic. While he did not admit that it gave him extra motivation, it appears Simmons' comment pumped Young up during their game against the Australian star and the 76ers.

Young, who was selected fifth overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, shot the lights out against the 76ers. The 20-year-old rookie finished with 33 points on 12-for-18 shooting with two three-pointers. He also added 12 assists, seven rebounds, and a block in 33 minutes. After the game, Young took a swipe at Simmons.

“Maybe he thinks differently now,” Young said. “For me, I just try to have fun and compete. I don't care what he says.”

Young and the Hawks also had the last laugh, as they escaped with a 130-122 upset over the playoff-bound 76ers. John Collins also had a big night with 25 points and eight rebounds, while DeAndre Bembry added 17 points on top of six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

With the win, the Hawks improved to 29-50 and now have five more wins compared to their record last season. On the other hand, the 76ers dropped to 49-29 but are still in a good position to finish third in the Eastern Conference standings, which would give them homecourt advantage at least in the first round of the playoffs.
