Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is planning to work with Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on his mid-range game after he’s finished with his Team USA training camp obligations at the start of August, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.

Young shot 31.6 percent last season on shots from 16 feet to the 3-point line.

The plan is for Young, after he’s finished with his Team USA training camp obligations at the start of August, to travel to Newport Beach, Calif., before he has to report back to Atlanta on Aug. 19 and work on his mid-range game with Kobe Bryant. Last summer, Bryant worked with Boston’s Jayson Tatum before the start of his sophomore season. Twenty-two percent of Tatum’s shot attempts this past season were considered long 2-point shots, ranking him in the 95th percentile.

Trae Young had a stellar rookie year for the Hawks, and he is now looking to lead the franchise to the playoffs in his sophomore season. Young averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 8.1 assists as a rookie while shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc and 82.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks drafted De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish in the 2019 NBA Draft, acquired Evan Turner from the Portland Trail Blazers and signed Jabari Parker in free agency.

Atlanta is eager to see if Young, John Collins, Reddish and Hunter can lead the team back to the postseason.

Kobe Bryant is one of the best mid-range scorers in NBA history, so he'll be able to teach Young a lot of tricks on how to master the mid-range game.
