After a stellar Game 1 victory against the Philadephia 76ers, the Atlanta Hawks drastically plummeted in terms of their level of performance in Game 2 of the series. The dynamic offense of the Sixers simply cannot be stopped as Doc Rivers and his men ran away with a 118-102 victory on their home floor.
A primary reason for the Hawks' loss was their failure to find the bottom of the net, especially with a lackluster showing from their offense. With wing contributors like De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish still out due to their respective injuries, Bogdan Bogdanovic should definitely step up in order to give his team a greater chance of bouncing back and winning Game 3 in Atlanta.
On Tuesday night, Trae Young led the Hawks in scoring with 21 points and 11 assists in 37 minutes of action. Despite his numbers, he still failed to find a good rhythm on the floor as he only shot 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Veteran forward Danilo Gallinari provided a huge boost as he tallied 21 points and nine rebounds along with five three-pointers in 26 minutes. Kevin Huerter was also hitting his shots on the perimeter as he notched 20 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting from the field.
Despite the production of these Hawks players, it was still not enough to match the offensive output of the Sixers. Philadelphia had multiple players who easily found their way to the basket led by Joel Embiid who came out with a monster output of 40 points and 13 rebounds.
Tobias Harris recorded 22 points and six rebounds while Seth Curry also found his groove on the floor with 21 points as he went five-of-six from beyond the arc.
Simply put, the Hawks won't have a chance at winning, especially against a Sixers team that has multiple players posting huge numbers on the floor. Not to mention that Ben Simmons still had limited production on offense as he was limited to only four points in Game 2.
Article Continues BelowOn Tuesday night, Hawks head coach Nate McMillan opted to focus on offense as he gave a ton of minutes for Bogdanovic, Young, Huerter, and even John Collins. However, it didn't quite work out for them as they only shot 46% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc as compared to the Sixers' 53% and 46%, respectively. More than scoring, the Hawks also failed in sharing the ball as they only tallied a total of 20 assists, as opposed to the Sixers' 29.
The Serbian talent in Bogdanovic saw the most action on the floor as he played 41 minutes but merely recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. He wasn't hitting his usual shots as he only went 6-of-16 from the field and 2-of-6 from the three-point line.
After playing for quite some time in the league, everyone already knows the capability of Bogdanovic to make a huge impact on offense. His scoring and playmaking skills will definitely be crucial for the level of success that the Hawks will attain throughout the entire series against the Sixers.
Given the player that he is, Bogdanovic can surely do more than the numbers that he produced in Game 2 as head coach Nate McMillan is already giving him the freedom to operate along with a ton of playing time on the floor.
Certainly enough, Young can't do it all alone by himself even though he is a capable scorer from almost everywhere on the court. Guys like Bogdanovic himself must step up in order to provide an added boost to the team's offense and match the production of their opponents on the floor. Hopefully, Game 3 will see a better performance from Bogdan Bogdanovic as the Hawks aim to get a win on their home court and regain the series lead once more.
