The Atlanta Hawks are a young up-and-coming team that has playoff goals for next season. Last season they made a big trade to acquire Clint Capela but there are reports that they're not done. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Hawks are emerging as a possible suitor for New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday.

On the daily Locked On Hawks Podcast, host Brad Rowland discussed the rumor that the Hawks are interested in trading for Jrue Holiday and why that isn't the best option for Atlanta.

Brad Rowland: Jrue Holiday is a top 30 or 40 player in the league, he would be huge for the Hawks. He's also an excellent fit with Trae Young as a guy who could play on the ball or off the ball and play defensively perfectly against pretty much anybody one through three.

I think the intel is pivotal here for [general manager] Travis Schlenk and for me, you cannot, in my view, make a trade to send the number six pick out for Jrue Holiday to get Holiday as the main piece of the trade without a plan, you really need to get an extension here. You can't trade a mid lottery pick for one year of Jrue Holiday when you can't win a championship next year and, I guess with all due respect, the Hawks cannot win a championship next year. Could they be good next year with Jrue Holiday? Sure, they could, but being a title contender is a different level. That's why I think that Holiday makes more sense in other places. There are some teams that can justify that. I think for the Hawks, there is value in making the playoffs next year for sure. Trading what the franchise hopes will to be the last lottery pick for a long while though, to get one more year of team control of Jrue Holiday is not the greatest process decision in the world. I think the full context of the deal certain is like super important for me.
