The Brooklyn Nets have released a statement on the allegations against small forward Rodions Kurucs.

Kurucs was arrested in Brooklyn for allegedly choking his girlfriend. Here's the Nets' full statement, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:

“After learning of the allegations against Rodions Kurucs, we notified and are assisting the League Office as they begin the process of gathering more information. The Nets organization takes allegations of this nature with extreme seriousness. While the investigation is underway and as we continue to learn more, we will refrain from commenting further.”

According to earlier reports, Rodions Kurucs allegedly attacked his girlfriend after a verbal argument spiraled out of control. The incident reportedly happened on June 27 in Kurucs' apartment in Carroll Gardens.

Kurucs allegedly “pushed her on the bed, slapped her in the face twice, bit her lip and then picked her up and tossed her on the bed hard enough to hurt her ribs.”

The 21-year-old forward is heading into his second year in the NBA. He played in 63 games last season as a rookie with the Nets and averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Nets selected Kurucs with the 40th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was born and raised in Latvia.
