For those unaware, Irving was born in Australia but was raised in New Jersey — the first location of the team after the NBA-ABA merger. He went to high school in Montclair Kimberley Academy located in Montclair, New Jersey, then in St. Patrick located in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

In a previous Instagram post, Irving recalled the time when he was in the fourth grade and the Jason Kidd-led Nets made it to the Finals. For the 27-year-old, seeing his hometown team make it to basketball's biggest stage made a great impact on him.

Now, together with fellow star Kevin Durant and his new teammates, Irving will have the tall order of bringing the Nets back to the NBA Finals. It will be difficult. Especially for the 2019-2020 season as Durant will be out to nurse his Achilles. But once everything settles, Irving has a good chance of bringing a title to the team he looked up to.
