Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie says Kyrie Irving told him he meant what he said when he committed to the Boston Celtics in October, but then “something happened” during the season which changed Irving's mind.
Irving told Celtics fans at the TD Garden before the 2018-19 season started he was planning to re-sign with Boston. Dinwiddie says Irving called him in December and said playing on the Nets together could be fun.
So, something changed in Irving's mind around December it looks like.
Dinwiddie says Kyrie told him he meant what he said when he committed to the Celtics in October, which means he changed his mind in a span of two months. Dinwiddie vaguely says, “Something happened.”

Kyrie Irving reportedly didn't have the best relationship with Celtics head coach Brad Stevens and didn't enjoy living in Boston. Uncle Drew is from New Jersey and was a Nets fan as a kid. It sounds like Irving just wanted to go back home and play for the team he grew up rooting for.
The Nets landed Irving, Kevin Durant, DeAndre Jordan, Garrett Temple and Wilson Chandler in free agency. Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert all figure to take the next step in their development in 2019-20. Look for Brooklyn to be a top-four team in the Eastern Conference next season. They'll surely become a title contender in 2020-21 when Durant returns from his Achilles injury.
Irving is going to be serenaded with boos when he returns to the TD Garden. Nets fans, though, are going to give him huge ovations every night at the Barclays Center.
