The Brooklyn Nets might get a shot at acquiring Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant this summer.
Durant could become a free agent after the 2018-19 NBA season if he decides to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors. If he becomes a free agent this summer, the New York Knicks are expected to be the favorites to land the two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.
However, according to Anthony Puccio of SNY, the Nets could eventually become a dark horse in the race to sign Durant in the offseason. Puccio reported that the 30-year-old superstar might sign with Brooklyn because he is interested in playing alongside Nets rising star Caris LeVert.
Article Continues BelowSNY has learned that while Durant has yet to make any sort of decision, he's interested in playing alongside the 24-year-old LeVert, who was on track for an All-Star season before suffering a dislocated foot back in November.
Puccio reported that Kevin Durant and Caris LeVert developed a deep relationship when both of them underwent foot surgery in 2015 under the same surgeon, Dr. Martin O'Malley. They also trained together in 2017, and LeVert revealed that Durant told him to be ready for the spotlight.
LeVert looked on the verge of becoming an All-Star earlier in the season after averaging over 18 points in their first 14 games this season. However, his progress was hampered by a gruesome foot injury, which almost ended his season.
Durant, on the other hand, will be a hot commodity in the offseason. A two-time Finals MVP, Durant reportedly want to lead his own team and rebuild his reputation that was tarnished when he chose to sign with Golden State.
