The Boston Celtics received unfortunate news regarding Kyrie Irving on Thursday afternoon, with the guard needing to undergo another knee procedure. His timeline to return is set at four-to-five months, which means he's out for the remainder of the regular season as well as the postseason.

In light of that, the Celtics have decided to add free agent point guard Johnathan Gibson, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Gibson spent the 2017-18 season playing with the Qingdao Double Star Eagles, averaging 33.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 3.9 made three-pointers per game in 38.6 minutes per game. He even put up a 60-point performance this year as well.

Prior to that, Gibson spent the 2016-17 season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 6.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 13.6 minutes per game across 17 appearances on the year. He scored a career-high 26 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a November 2016 game against the Orlando Magic, but never became a full part of the Mavs' rotation once they were healthy.
