All-Star guard Kemba Walker is reportedly leaving the Charlotte Hornets after eight years, and the team's unwillingness to pay him is one of the reasons why.
Walker made it to the All-NBA third team last season after putting up 25.6 points, 5.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds. Receiving the All-NBA honors made him eligible for a supermax contract worth $221 million. However, the Hornets were reportedly not comfortable giving him that money, or even a deal that's close to a $190 million max contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
"The Hornets offer, I'm told, wasn't even really close to the max contract offer of $190M."

According to recent rumors, the Hornets offered Walker a four-year, $160 million deal — which is $61 million less than what he is eligible for. With that said, it's not surprising that Walker would feel disrespected by the team that he has given everything for.

Now, the Hornets will be left with nothing, as their fans can't help but express their frustrations on social media, saying the team could've traded Kemba during the trade deadline. Instead, they will have no choice but to build around their younger guys.
Unless the Hornets' rookies and other prospects live up to or exceed expectations, Charlotte could potentially be one of the worst teams in the league next season.
