The Chicago Bulls were one of the worst teams in the NBA last season. Even though they have a bunch of promising young players, the Jim Boylen-led squad does not have enough firepower to stand toe-to-toe against the league's best.

Well, not much has changed in terms of the team's roster this season, but Boylen is optimistic that the team can improve by playing faster and defending harder.

“We’d like to play faster. We’d like to get even better at our multi-handler system. The things we’ve been working on is when a guy brings it, the other guys have to run, be disciplined enough to run. Be in condition to run for 48 minutes,” Boylen said, per Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.

“We want to be a solid, good defensive team. But we want to play faster. And we want to hit the paint and spray it. The one thing we did poorly last year was our deep-drive decisions. We’ve got to do a better job of that. We’ve got to honor our spacing, night in and night out. And I think we’ve got to do a better job of playing point-five (second) basketball, which is when you catch it you either drive it, shoot it or pass it. That’s what we’ve been working on.”

The Bulls have quick guards and forwards who can run and space the floor in transition. Zach LaVine, Coby White and Kris Dunn can handle the ball while Lauri Markkanen and Tomas Satoransky can be the team's primary shooters. Otto Porter Jr., Christiano Felicio and Thaddeus Young can also get buckets in the paint.

If the Bulls play smart, patient basketball, they might be able to compensate for the absence of a superstar talent. At the end of the day, their success will depend on how well they execute on both ends of the floor.
