When asked by reporters whether he was nervous as a rookie during his first postseason experience, former Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler took a playful jab at Tom Thibodeau.

Butler, whose Miami Heat are up 3-0 on the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2020 playoffs, reminded reporters that Thibodeau didn't play him during his rookie season since the 2011-12 Bulls team was stacked.

Per Nick Friedell of ESPN:

“Thibs didn't play me my rookie year … I had an easy job. Tyler, he's got to score here and there. My job was to give the ball to DRose, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer. I had an easy job — Don't even look at the basket, just pass it to the good players.”

Led by MVP Derrick Rose, the Bulls went 50-16 during the 2011-12 lockout season. Jimmy Butler only averaged 8.5 minutes per game that season. He didn't start playing more until the 2012-13 season. That's when Chicago played the entire campaign without Rose, who was recovering from an ACL tear.

Tom Thibodeau and Butler developed a strong bond on the Bulls, where he became an All-Star. Both player and coach also helped the Minnesota Timberwolves snap their playoff drought in 2018 when Butler was the star for the Wolves and Thibodeau was calling the shots.

Thibodeau is now the head coach of the New York Knicks, while Butler is living his best life with the Heat. Bulls fans miss both guys, as Thibodeau and Butler were part of the last Chicago team that was good.

The 2014-15 Bulls, who were coached by Thibodeau and led by Butler and Rose, won 50 games and got to the second round of the playoffs.
