The Chicago Bulls have officially shut down Lauri Markkanen for the rest of the season, and the latest update from the team cites that the 21-year-old rising star needs further evaluation.

Markkanen suffered from extreme fatigue during their game against the Toronto Raptorson Tuesday, eventually forcing him to sit out the second half of the game. He was also sidelined in their game against the Portland Trail Blazers to undergo further evalation.

After the game, however, the team revealed that they are shutting down the young Finn to conduct more testing on what caused the “episode of a rapid heart rate and fatigue” which he recently experience.

In their official press release, Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson said that Markkanen's health is their priority.

“The long-term health of our players is always our organization’s top priority,” said Paxson. “We will continue to monitor Lauri’s condition and work with our medical staff and doctors to provide him with everything he may need.”

Markkanen joins a long list of injured Bulls players including Denzel Valentine, Wendell Carter, Jr., Chandler Hutchison, Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and Otto Porter, Jr. With Markkanen done for the season, Chicago called up guard Rawle Alkins from its G League team, the Windy City Bulls. Markkanen and Alkins were teammates with the Arizona Wildcats.

Prior to his health issue, the 21-year-old Markkanen averaged 18.7 points, nine rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 52 regular season games for the Bulls.
