Free throws are often the most boring parts of basketball games. In a very fast-paced game with a lot of moving parts every second, the lull of a lone guy shooting uncontested 15-footers is kind of, well, boring. However… Chicago Bulls center Tristan Thompson unintentionally found a way to make this mundane trip interesting.
First, Thompson airballed his first free throw attempt. The Bulls center missing a free throw isn't surprising: he's a career 60% shooter from there. However, the way he badly missed the rim was hilarious and kind of sad. Thompson's dumbfounded look after the airball was the icing on the cake. (via r/NBA)

This time, though, Thompson way overcorrected with his strength, leading it to bounce from the backboard. Luckily, it banked into the rim, and a rare bank shot free throw was born.
The Bulls didn't bring in Thompson to shoot free throws (or make free throw attempts look funny), though. They got the former champion with the Cavs for two things: rebounding and defense. One of the Bulls' major weaknesses prior to acquiring the center was lack of rebounding prowess without Nikola Vucevic. Thompson addresses that need for the team.
Thompson's shooting woes won't bother the Bulls in the long run… hopefully. While he'd be a likely target for Hack-a-Shaq tactics, he won't be in the game for crucial late-game stretches. Fans can just look at this as a hilarious glitch in the matrix attempt from Tristan.
