The 2017 trade deal that centered around Zach LaVine and Jimmy Butler now feels like a lifetime away. It was one of the biggest deals of that offseason, with the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves pulling the trigger on a franchise-altering trade.

On Wednesday night, LaVine and the Bulls faced off against Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers (as we all know, Butler famously forced his way out of Minnesota a couple of months back), and it was the former who shined brighter.

Following his 39-point performance in a surprise Bulls victory against Butler and the Sixers, LaVine was asked about the deal that transpired nearly two years ago. The 23-year-old was quick to point out that this matters very little to him at this point.

“I don’t think I get caught up in that,” LaVine told Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic. “I get caught up in the competition of playing a top-25 guy at my position. Because that’s where I want to be at. I’m trying to get myself to that mountaintop.”

LaVine went on to praise Butler and explained why he holds the Sixers star in very high regard.

“Jimmy’s off the charts, man,” LaVine told . “He’s a top-25 player in the NBA. There’s no doubt about that. So playing against him, you’ve got to bring your A-game. I always try to bring it, but when the bright lights are on, you can expect me to be on my A-game, too.”

LaVine is definitely a class act and a true professional. Holding grudges and setting out for revenge is just not his style.
