Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine is looking forward to the future with his new team, but took some time to talk about the past — namely his controversial win against Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic in the 2016 Slam Dunk Contest.
LaVine, who surprised most by taking the 2015 slam dunk trophy convincingly, met a true rival in the high-flying Gordon, who, despite his 6-foot-9 frame, brought an equally-impressive gravity-defying display to All-Star Saturday in 2016.
The young slasher admitted he's been asked about the decision to crown him champ a second time.
“It comes up; especially afterward, it came up a lot… Man, at end of the day, that's people's opinion,” LaVine told Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune. “I could care less — I know I'm sitting at home with the trophy. Me and Aaron both did a good job. I don't think either one of us could be mad about either one of our performances.”

Yet despite the controversy, the freakishly athletic LaVine wouldn't rule out a possible return to slam dunk glory.
“I got a few dunks still left in my bag,” he said. “I wanted to do the three-point contest last year before I hurt myself. I feel like I have a really good shot in that. I might try to get that next year.”
“But you never know (about the dunk contest), I still have a couple dunks left in me, especially being with this new city, new team. I know they would like to see some new, fun stuff. But I don't know, man, it might be in the past. It might be hard to upstage yourself after winning back-to-back. … I got a couple people haven't seen yet. I have to figure the other three. With me and Aaron, you have to have about five dunks because it went on so long. I got about three dunks people haven't seen before. I'll keep it a surprise just in case I sneak in there again.”
Fans would be delighted to see Zach LaVine compete again, but the 22-year-old would be wise to take in consideration the longevity of his NBA career after coming off a left ACL injury that prematurely ended his best and most recent season.
