Do you believe you are the biggest Michael Jordan fan in the world? If the answer is yes, then the eight-year-old version of Irene Lao would disagree.
Lao is a 20-year-old college student now, but at the age of eight she carried around a life-sized cardboard cutout of Michael Jordan wherever she went.
She told Madison Malone Kircher of Select All where her obsession, and unusual habit started.
One day after class, I walked into a Nike store with some of my friends and I saw the cardboard cut out of him. I asked how much he was and ended up paying 200 NT$ (about $6 U.S.) and dragged him out.
It was at that point where Lao would bring the cutout to school, and even want to include it in her school assignments as much as possible.
Article Continues BelowI think I wrote a song for him. Whenever my teachers asked me to choose a partner in class, I would be like MJ is my partner. SMH.
As she grew, Lao eventually broke her habit of carrying the cutout around. Her parents did offer to buy her a poster of Jordan in place of the cutout, which she gladly agreed although the store had none.
Now at 20, Lao just looks at old pics and reflect on what she probably used as her inspiration in life.
