As the injury bug continues its wrath on the Dallas Mavericks, D'Angelo Russell is listed as questionable ahead of its NBA Cup clash against the New Orleans Pelicans. Russell was added to the Mavericks' injury report, joining the likes of Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Dante Exum.

Russell isn't ruled out for Friday's matchup against the Pelicans, but could be a late scratch for the Mavericks, per ClutchPoints' Joey Mistretta.

“D'Angelo Russell is now listed as questionable on the Mavericks' injury report due to an illness,” Mistretta reported.

Russell's 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-for-7 from deep, seven assists, and five rebounds led the Mavericks' bench alongside Naji Marshall (23 points, five rebounds) in a 113-111 loss against the New York Knicks. D'Angelo's taken on a sixth-man role in his first season with Dallas.

While he's started in three games while Irving continues his recovery from a torn ACL, Russell has settled into leading the Mavericks' bench for coach Jason Kidd. Averaging 12.6 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds, D'Angelo's production has been consistent.

The Mavs will look to bounce back from Wednesday's loss when they host the Pelicans on Friday.

Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg has been cleared to play in Friday's NBA Cup game against the Pelicans. He was on the injury report as available to play after Flagg missed Thunder's Wednesday matchup against the Knicks. Cooper has been dealing with an illness.

However, he will rejoin the Mavericks lineup in Friday's game against the Pelicans. Between injuries to key players such as Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving to former GM Nico Harrison's firing, it's been a tumultuous start to the top prospect's NBA career from an environmental standpoint.

However, it's impacted the team's success this season, or lackthereof, as the Mavericks have fallen to a 4-12 for third-worst record in the Western Conference. They'll look to add a fifth to the win column against the team with the worst record in the West — the 2-13 — Pelicans.
