Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving exited Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings early with an injury. On Tuesday, the Mavs' worst fears were confirmed. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Kyrie suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season.
Irving was in the middle of a tremendous campaign. It goes without saying, but this is devastating news for both Irving and the Mavericks.
Kyrie Irving, despite suffering the injury, remained in the game to shoot free throws before exiting. Although it was clearly unlikely that he would be able to return on Monday, Irving's decision to shoot the free throws kept him eligible for a potential return.
In the end, Kyrie was ultimately ruled out for the remainder of the contest, and the Mavs lost by a final score of 122-98. A trusted source, who is a doctor of physical therapy, told ClutchPoints that ACL recovery after surgery usually lasts anywhere from nine to 15 months. However, the Mavericks have yet to officially announce the news or an injury timeline.

With Kyrie Irving expected to miss the remainder of the season, the Mavs will have a difficult decision to make in the coming weeks. Anthony Davis, who was acquired in the Luka Doncic trade, is currently out due to a left adductor strain. Dallas is currently in 10th place in the Western Conference, so it remains to be seen if AD will return given the Irving injury news.
Davis, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II are all expected to be re-evaluated on Thursday. As a result, an AD injury update should surface at some point this week.
As for Kyrie Irving, it will be a long journey back to playing in the NBA once again. Irving is extremely tough, however, and he will work hard to return as soon as possible.
