DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are preparing for the regular season, which is set to begin on Thursday, October 24. Dallas is hoping to get healthy before the regular season begins, and they received three important updates on Friday after practice. Luka Doncic (calf) and Maxi Kleber (ankle) both practiced, while Kessler Edwards (ankle) was involved in non-contact practice.

Mavs head coach Jason Kidd provided a promising Doncic update on Thursday, and it appears that Luka continued to trend in a promising direction on Friday. The same can be said for Kleber and Edwards.

“Good,” Kleber said while speaking to reporters of how he felt in practice Friday. “You know, it's great being back on the court, being back with the team. So, feel good about it.”

Kleber is dealing with a left ankle sprain. He was happy to return to practice on Friday, however. So how did practice go with Kleber and Doncic both participating?

“Played five-on-five,” Kleber said. “To get… rhythm back, legs back, go a little bit up and down. Cleaned up some stuff from the game yesterday, watched some film. So just keep improving everyday, we have, like, less than a week now until the first game starts so we got to make sure to be aligned on everything.”

Dallas is looking to have a big 2024-25 season. The Mavs reached the NBA Finals last year, and despite falling short of a championship expectations are high for the 2024-25 campaign.

It will require a complete team effort for the Mavs to take the next step. They certainly feature enough talent and potential to make serious noise in the Western Conference. Depth is important, as a player like Kleber, for example, can be a difference-maker. Kleber may not receive the most headlines but he offers versatility as a forward given his ability to stretch the floor.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates on the Mavericks' injury situation as they are made available.
