The Dallas Mavericks appear to be taking the right steps in preparing their lineup for next season. Recently, it was reported that the Mavs will be guaranteeing the deal of 6-foot-7 wing Ryan Broekhoff for next season, as the 28-year-old looks to be part of the team's plans for the coming year:

Broekhoff was an undrafted rookie last season who signed a two-year deal with the Mavs. In his debut campaign in the league, the Australian put up 4.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per contest. Despite his rather timid contributions, he has apparently done enough to warrant a role on the team for next season.

With this move, the Mavs are shoring up the bottom of their roster ahead of free agency. Dallas is also working on a new deal to keep Dwight Powell around for the long haul.

There have also been reports about the Mavs setting their sights extremely high in free agency, with the team reportedly willing to take a swing at no less than Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant. With the highly promising duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis already set to lead the franchise into the future, adding a superstar-caliber player such as Durant would instantly propel the Mavs into contention once he's healthy.

However, there's no evidence that Durant is interested in going to Dallas at all, and the Mavs are also going to miss out on Kemba Walker. Dallas may have to pivot to smaller free agents, but perhaps Mark Cuban will have something up his sleeve.
