Mavs icon Dirk Nowitzki has said that this will be his final season of service in the NBA. In light of this fact, the German-born star recently sat down with Tim MacMahon of ESPN to reveal his plans for retirement.

Like most athletes who retire, Nowitzki plans to take a vacation and spend some time with his family. However, he also noted that he would like to be involved with the Mavericks organization in some way going forward:

In his final home game of this campaign — a 120-109 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night — Nowitzki logged 33 minutes, racking up a season-high 30 points on 11-of-31 shooting from the field (5-of-14 from beyond the arc), eight rebounds, three assists and one block.

Nowitzki's season and career will come to an end on Wednesday night, when the Mavs travel to San Antonio for a matchup against the Spurs. According to a report from ESPN, Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle is planning to play Nowitzki, who has spent a record 21 seasons with the franchise.

In the end, Nowitzki will go down as one of the most influential big men of this era. He's racked up several notable accolades over the course of his career, including one championship (2011), 14 All-Star nods and four All-NBA First Team selections. However, he'll likely be remembered most for his one-legged fadeaway jumper — a move that is still imitated to this day.

Wednesday night's Mavs-Spurs game is scheduled to tip inside the AT&T Center at 8:00 p.m. ET.
